Canon EOS 500D Price Anomaly

This is a strange one:  you can currently buy the Canon EOS 500D lens  kit (with the 18-55mm lens) for less than the 500D body at Warehouse Express.  The lens kit is £695 wherease the body only 500D is £719.  This values the EF-S 18-55mm IS lens at -£24, even though they sell the lens on its own for £143.

Now, the body only option comes with a free card and bag, but you have to wonder just how “free” these items really are?

    the Canon 500D would be a direct competitor with the Nikon D90. Currently, i own an EOS450D and i want to upgrade to 500D so that i can take HD videos.

    Argos are selling the canon 450D body only for £489.99 and with the 18-55mm lens for £486.20. £3.79 cheaper with lens. no wonder its sold out with lens. 20/5/09 on line.
