Canon have today announed the new full frame Canon EOS 6D digital SLR. With a similar size and weight to the EOS 60D, they say the EOS 6D is the world’s lightest DSLR to feature a full-frame CMOS sensor. No official word yet on the RRP, but I believe it is going to launch at £1799 – if this is correct then it will be a little cheaper than the new Nikon D600 with which it seems to be competing. The press release is here. There is also no release date given but apparently it will be in December.
Apart from the full frame 20 megapixel sensor, the most notable features are the built in GPS and wifi – the wifi not only allowing file transfers, but also remote control of the camera via an app. ISO goes up to 25,600 and is expandable to ISO 102,400. Frame rate is 4.5 frames per second and of course you get full HD video. No built in flash and only 97% viewfinder coverage.
