Great little fella, sharp as it can be, good and quick focus. A bit noisy, but hey I paid 82£ for it.
If you never used a prime, this should be one of the first to get.

Cheap, light, small, sharp as a sharp thing, and lets a lot of light in. Lovely depth of field. If youve not got a prime, buy this one right now. (Build quality? Good for a £90 lens. You cant have everything!)

Better value than quality of build, but a very good lens. 50mm makes great portrait lens on apsc. If your on a budget OK but for me the f1.4 is far superior in build and image quality justifying the slightly greater price. I would suggest try before you buy compare them youll easily see the difference.

Quality: build lacks inspiration, images are pin sharp
Weight: lightest canon lens around....
Size: pretty dinky, but not too small
Usage: great for isolating subjects, or low light eg weddings
overall 5* or 95% (it drops for build quality)
If you are looking at getting one, buy it....
Pros buy them as they dont cost much to replace if the worst happens!!
also of great use for extreme situations eg wet weather, as they dont cost as much as the F/1.2!!!!

Tempted to rate it excellent. Good lense rendered superb by its low price. Not that solidly built or quick focusing, but image quality is good and makes it easy to isolate the subject from the background.

Fantastic value for money.
Very sharp indeed if you are used to the kit lens.
Great for situations where you can "foot zoom"
F1.8 can let you take photos in the street at night handheld.
The build quality feels a bit cheap and plastic.
