Blogginning

Hello.  I’ve got round to installing some blog software (wordpress) so I can now waffle on about things related to Camera Price Buster, camera equipment and anything else that comes to mind.

It’s been quiet on my side of the site, I’ve not had much time to spend on it (as you may know, I run the site in my spare time).  With the credit crunch the site is proving more popular than ever, but due to the weakness of the pound against other currencies, we are seeing prices for cameras and especially lenses shoot up.  Some of the price history graphs are quite startling – for example the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM is showing a huge increase in cost.  And on top of that, there seem to be availability issues with some items.

So, when you have less money to spend, the prices are going up.  What can I say?

Hopefully at least my site will help you when shopping around.  Please, please, please, recommend my site to other photographers (if you find it useful) as word of mouth is the best way for my site to grow.

One more thing:  the contact page on my site has been broken for a while, but I only noticed recently, so apologies if you did not get replies to your messages.  Please email me at the address given at the top of the contact page if you want to get in touch.  Thanks.

Matt

I am a regular looker at this site and have bought new canon and tripod and bag too. It is a really useful place to start looking for camera stuff. I just want to say that it would be good if software like lightroom, photoshop, and other image editing stuff could be included if you have time? What do you and others think?

    thanks

I’m currently in the middle of updating all the lens listings, which will take a few weeks. I’ll have a look at doing this after that. Any other suggestions for software are welcome!

Thanks for this invaluable resource. I am constsntly pointing our UK and EU users your way as it saves a whole lot of surfing to find the keen prices.

    Kind regards

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for the great website you’ve made here. I find it very useful to find the lowest prices when dreaming of upgrading my camera gear…

    Keep up the good work!

As with the other posters I look at this site nearly every day. And, yes, have certainly noticed the price rises. Lenses that were tantalisingly close have receded. ;-(

A question: you cover Canon mount Sigma lenses, but not Nikon mount – may I ask why? There is a often a price difference between the mounts. E.g. the Sigma 50-150 f2.8 is least expensive at Amazon; but the Nikon mount price there is considerably more.

Do keep up the good work – many of us thank you for it.

In most cases, although it seems not all, the price is the same. The Sigma lens listings are a real pain to maintain, and I don’t currently have the spare time to add listings for other mounts – sorry!

Hi Matt – very very useful website.

But, your site has developed one or two problems like people not being able to post reviews on equipment purchased (I’ve been trying for months to post one on the MB10 Nikon Batterygrip but no success). Also Jacobs is mucking up prices on the Tamron lens prices (see Tamron
14mm f2.8 Aspherical (IF)) but they are not the only ones doing that ( see also Nikon D60 VR Kit).

Your note on the contact page giving your email address isn’t clear hence this blog lol. What is your email address?

You might also want to add “cameraking” to your list of suppliers as they are cheaper on some items and seem to be very efficient when I’ve used them.

For selling equipment I have used the firm you advertise (MBPhotographic in Brighton) – Matt barker who runs the business is very good. So again your website is providing excellent contacts.

Great site! We appreciate all your hard work!!

Congratulations on the new blog Matt. The price charts really show what’s going on and when the big changes happen. Thanks for all your work.

Great site!, I am in the process of buying my first DSLR and found the information and links extremely useful. Its the first site I log on to when I get in to work in the morning hoping to see a little arrow by the Eos 450!

I believe the £ has nearly halved against the Yen over the course of 2008. So increases appear to be inevitable. On the other hand, the images achievable from relatively inexpensive cameras are simply astounding. Keep up the good work, this is an excellent website.
