Bought one as an upgrade from my D80 thats nearing 3 years of age. The D5000 just blows me away with its performance. The metering and exposure is spot-on and a great step up from the D80. High ISO (up to 6400) is usable with minimal noise, plus the quiet shutter release mode means that I was able to use it at an awards ceremony where one of my daughters received a certificate without drawing attention to myself. I keep the LCD screen turned in most of the time which means I avoid the usual greasy nose smears on a rear LCD and also results in excellent battery performance, well over 700 shots from one charge. I originally wanted a D300s but couldnt afford it; no matter now that I have seen the results from the D5000. It fits my bill perfectly.
