This a great value telephoto zoom capapble of producing stunning photos, as long as you are prepared to accept a few minor flaws. Lets get the negatives out of the way first: its not a great sports/nature lens, and its not very sharp at 300mm; if you want these qualities youre going to have to spend a hell of a lot more, and your back will know about it, as well as your wallet.
Regardless, this is a great walkaround telephoto zoom, which produces very sharp long landscape and nature shots in a relatively lightweight package. Long-end shots are perfectly usable, as long as you employ good technique and appropriate AF settings, although I find nature photography a bit hit-and-miss at its 300mm end.
Bokeh is very good, and VR is excellent, which is just what you need in a telephoto. It looks a bit cheap fully extended, but it handles very well, and you can carry it around all day without noticing.
All in all, this is an ideal economical walkaround telephoto zoom. Its better built and higher quality than the cheaper Nikon telephotos. But if you want something more specialised, youll have to pay big money, and hire a caddy.
