On paper, this lens is a cracker. Its not too expensive, its well built, its sharp, and it produces lovely images with good bokeh at wide apertures. Whats not to like?
I use prime lenses for three reasons: shallow depth of field, light weight, and candid photography. Its certainly very light, and it can produce shallow DOF images very well, although, like a lot of lenses, axial chromatic aberration can sometimes spoil soft contrasty edges with magenta/green fringes. Where this lens drops a point is in its AF speed. Its fine manual focus sensitivity is a double-edged sword, as it is surprisingly slow to focus, meaning youll quite possibly miss that fleeting moment.
